OKINAWA EXTENSION TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Only becoming a part of Japan in the 17th Century, the islands of Okinawa were once a group of fiercely independent kingdoms. With a culture, cuisine, and climate that is still very much its own, this itinerary allows you to experience this truly amazing tropical paradise.

The best time to visit Okinawa is in spring (i.e. March to early May) or autumn (i.e. late September to December). Summer is also a popular time to visit but it can be very busy and chances of typhoons are high.

DAILY ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN OKINAWA
Fly from the Japanese mainland to the capital of Okinawa, Naha. Transfer to your hotel where you will stay for 2 nights.

DAY 2: OKINAWA MAIN ISLAND
Spend the day exploring the main island of Okinawa. Be sure to visit the magnificent Churaumi Aquarium, and marvel at the majesty of the marine life on exhibition there. The main island saw the brunt of the fighting in the final days of the Second World War, the Peace Memorial Museum and Cornerstone for Peace act as a sobering reminder of the destruction and loss of life. There are also castles that date back to before Japanese control of the islands. The most impressive of these is Shuri Castle.

DAY 3: MAIN ISLAND TO ISHIGAKI ISLAND
Fly from Naha to Ishigaki Island. Upon arrival, you may wish to luxuriate at one of the Island's beaches. The Island is also an excellent location for snorkelling, with fantastically coloured manta rays inhabiting the bay area. Check in to your hotel for 2 nights.

DAY 4: TAKETOMI ISLAND DAY TRIP
From Ishigaki, take a 15-minute boat ride to the island of Taketomi. Avail of a water buffalo tour, allowing you to take in the serenity of the island. Return to Ishigaki in the evening.

DAY 5: IRIOMOTE ISLAND DAY TRIP- RETURN TO THE MAIN ISLAND
Take a 40-minute ferry ride from Ishigaki to Iriomote Island. Return to Ishigaki in the afternoon for your return flight to the main island. As it's your last night in Okinawa, you may wish to visit the Mihama American Village, which offers a wide variety of restaurants for a final meal, as well as options for a spot of souvenir shopping. Check in to the same hotel on the main island for one night.

DAY 6: DEPART OKINAWA
Sadly, it's time to leave this tropical paradise! Transfer from your hotel to Naha airport. Fly to the Japanese mainland for your onward international connection home.
