Japan Journeys has been delighting customers since 2004 and we are the Number 1 provider of special interest tours for manga, bonsai, gardens, and quilters fans.

We are based in London and our staff spend a good deal of our time every year in Japan leading tours, checking out new sights and generally keeping up with what's going on in the land of the rising sun. All our staff have spent years living, working, and travelling in Japan, which is why we are dedicated to bringing you the best of this amazing country. Don't just take our word for it – see what previous customers have said about us.

In May 2010, we launched our brand new Gourmet tour of Japan, the first offered by a UK operator. Our Japan Manga Tour as well is the first-of-its-kind manga tour offered by a tour operator in Europe. We also offer a Classic Japan Tour that runs at cherry blossom time, a Gardens Tour during autumn leaf season, and regular cruises to the land of the rising sun. Japan Journeys also works with private clients and schools to arrange tailor-made itineraries. In 2013 we were awarded 'Best Specialist Company'  in the NEO Magazine Awards.

OUR STAFF

Our team is led by James, who lived in Tokyo from 1991-1995, Mario, who lived in Osaka from 2012-2014, and Issei, a former English teacher born and bread in Japan.

James (Managing Director)

James' fondest memory of Japan was visiting the wonderful onsen (hot springs) of Hakone on a regular basis from Tokyo. As a result of his love of Japan, its people, and more importantly its food, he returned to the UK enthused with a passion to help others experience the Japan he had seen.

Mario (Product Manger)

Italian by nationality, English by living, Japanese by soul. After his bachelor's, Mario left Italy to move to Osaka. Spending two years studying and working in Japan, he developed a particular interest in Japanese society and its very different subcultures to return to Europe and get a MA in Japanese Studies at the world leading School of Oriental and African Languages (SOAS).

While living in Kansai, he did enjoy walking around the food streets of Osaka, getting lost in the street and among the beauties of Kyoto. According to Mario, there are few things not to be missed in Japan: the dotombori area in Osaka for a lot of tasty food, the peaceful atmosphere of the Zen gardens in Kyoto, and izakaya (Japanese style pubs) for dining immerse in a buzzing atmosphere.

Issei (Exectuive Travel Consultant)

Born and raised in Japan, in a small city on the island of Shikoku called Tokushima. Issei has visited much of Japan including time living in Yamanashi and Yokohama. After working as a Junior high school English teacher, he moved to London. He loves spending his leisure time in the district of Shibuya (in Tokyo) which reminds him of his university days. If you want to know all about Japanese culture, manners or sports, Issei is the guy to ask.
